Eyes on Heaven, Hands on Earth
- Posted by COACH NATHAN
Let us “set [our] minds on things above, not on
earthly things”, (Colossians 3:2) and at the same time we “must work, doing
something useful with [our] own hands, that [we] may have something to share
with those in need.” (Ephesians 4:28)
I’d
like to share this story of a Christian girl I know who has this heart for
serving and helping other people. I admire this girl for selflessly
participating in medical missions, camps and seminars, feeding programs, church
planting activities, evangelistic crusades, and many other ministries. Slowly,
however, she realizes that there is a perpetual need to finance those
activities, and that seeking donations is always never an easy task. So a
thought suddenly came to her mind, “Why can’t I be wealthy? Why can’t I have
the capacity to finance hundreds more of good causes?”
This Christian girl, at that very moment, decided to
be wealthy.
“But
wait!” she says, “does not the Bible warn us of rich men having greater
difficulty of entering God’s kingdom (Matt. 19:24) and that we should not store
up treasures on earth, but instead, store up treasures in heaven (Matt.
6:19-20)?”
Realizing this, the girl, renounced her decision.
Many
Christians share this girl’s fear. Fear that if they become wealthy, they are
more likely to sin. They are afraid that they might love money, err from the
faith, and be pierced through with many sorrows (1 Tim. 6:10). Many of us then
are asking, “is there a way for me to be materially prosperous and at the same
time not setting my eyes away from what’s above?”, “Can I be blessed materially
and not be materialistic?”, “Can I seek wealth and abundance, and at the same
time, remain spiritual and focused on God?”
The answer… Yes.
In
fact, Apostle Paul prayed that “in all respects [we] may prosper and be in good
health, just as [our] soul prospers" (3 John 2). The question now is “how
can I seek wealth without becoming selfish or materialistic?” The following are
ways on how any Christian can become wealthy… and still be saved
