Reality Bites

How did reality hit me to initiate a change?
This
was the hanging question in one of the previous entries. It was one evening in
November 2007 when I was slapped with the hard facts by my mentors through an
intensive coaching session. Even before that conversation happened, I was
already starting to realize that I’m not getting anywhere with employment, not
to mention the shifting schedule of my job. With the intention of empowering me
to succeed in business, we created a strategy that night and plan for my next
steps in the corporate and in the entrepreneur arena. The following day, I
resigned from work and submitted my application to a utility company.
The
highlight of that coaching session was when my mentors created a 2-column chart
with the pros and cons of my staying in the bank (where my career was going
well) and transferring to another company (where I'll start again from
scratch.) If you are in this dilemma right now, you might want to create a list
of pros and cons of your job and being an employee as well. Ask yourself,
"What is my commitment to myself, to my family, to my country and to my
Creator?" Come from that commitment and always think of the opportunity
cost. This is your reality check. You may just be probably thinking short-term
in the decisions that you have made in the past. For as long as you haven't
decided to step out of your comfort zone and start learning about business, it
is costing you the opportunity to tap into your full potential, spend more time
for your loved ones, and enjoy your life in the long run.
