Revolutionary road:

Leonardo
DeCaprio and Kate Winslet play a married couple in the mid 1950’s trying to
deal with what first appears to be a midlife / mid-marriage crises till one day
the wife comes up with an ideal to move to Italy and start over, this would
allow her husband to realize his dream, Now the first time I watched this movie
I was preoccupied with reading a book at the same time and the only reason I
was even watching it was because my wife insisted, so I did not really catch to
much of the movie.
Now
the second time was in the bedroom, my wife decided to watch the movie
regardless of the fact that I was trying to sleep, so as I was laying there I
couldn’t help but listed to the movie as it was playing and since I was not
watching the move and just listening to it I started to hear and understand the
underlying plot to the move and at that time two words popped into my mind “RAT
RACE”, at this point I sat up in bed and started to paying a lot more attention
to what was happening in the movie and even had my wife start the move over
from the beginning, so I could understand the whole plot of the movie.
Basically
the husband got a job in the corporate world after getting married and the wife
settled into her role as a house wife but both of them knew that this was not
what they were mint to accomplish in life, as the move played on the entire
sorted plot revealed itself to me, the husband was getting up in the morning
kissing the wife commuting to work in the car and the subway just to end up in
a cubical each day droning away at a deadened job along with hundreds of other
people, then returning home each night just to start it all over again in the
morning, this not only was driving him crazy but was also causing some very big
problems in the marriage, so the wife comes up with the plan to move to Italy,
so they could start over, but all of there friends think they are crazy except
for one that has been deemed mentally challenged by the doctors, he believes it
is a great ideal and will give them the chance to find there dream again.
About
halfway through the movie the wife finds out that she is pregnant and after
several horrendous fights they decide to stay where the are and not go to Italy
because of the wife’s pregnancy and because the husband was offered a better
position within his company at the same time, so several days later the friend
that is mentally challenged decides to visit and finds out why the couple is
not going to move to Italy, he immediately starts to analyze the reason for
this and determines that the husband is to week / scared to leave what has
become there “Comfort zone”, he poses the question (Don’t woman have baby’s in
Italy), if yes, then why is this stopping you from going, this questing of
course was asked because the pregnancy was the reason given for not moving to
Italy, but there friend could see that the real reason was because of fear and
not the pregnancy. The ensuing argument resulted in the friend being kicked out
and told never to return, and later in the movie the wife self-induced an abortion
for reasons not clearly stated in the movie, but the implied reason was to
enable them to pursue there dream.
This
movie had a lot more content then what I just described but the description of
the plot I described above was what I got from the movie, now we all have had
dreams and ambitions in life then for some reason we slowly loose focus on
those dreams then the worries of life takeover.
I
challenge all of you to think back and remember those dreams that you once had
and remember those hopes for a wonderful future filled with wealth and
happiness then take action to make them a reality now not later, it is never to
late to have your dreams come true.
